I am a college student working on the Business Management undergrad degree. I have a travel photo business I run on the side. I sell greeting cards, wall calendars, postcards, and prints. I know more about how to apply what I'm learning to the business now versus how to apply it after graduation. I have ideas for new businesses and inventions I think of ways to solve problems. I am outgoing.
I have three ideas in my mind. They include:
-Expanding the travel photo business. I want to sell luxurious wall prints and photo murals in addition to greeting cards and wall calendars. I believe in strong ethics and quality. While "exposure" may be nice, I would accept money in exchange for not receiving credit. I learned it's better to be unknown yet have more than enough money instead of being well known yet struggling to pay bills. I will target the luxury market with my photos. It's better to sell to a narrow luxury audience than it is to sell to a broad mainstream audience. I dream about taking photos on large format film. When done right, the image quality exceeds a $50,000 digital camera. The start up costs of large format film are low.
-Create a new digital camera ecosystem. The recording area will a square (1:1). No more choosing orientation or rotating at the scene. The user can crop for portrait or landscape position and have the same pixel dimensions and resolution. The cameras will be versatile and target costing will be used. I would prefer to gain major market dominance. Some of the cameras will use optical viewfinders. Global electronic shutters will be used. This is to lower mechanical complexity and enable flash at all shutter speeds without complex workarounds (such as HSS). The cameras will have functions to help laymen without omitting functions for advanced users. Quality control will be a top priority. The customers are more forgiving of missing functions than they are of design problems or bugs.
-Create a new computer OS. The smartphone will be the master device while the laptop and desktop it's connected to will be extensions. The phone will be like the brain while the laptop will be like voluntary parts controlled by the brain. Standalone laptops and workstations with a more advanced variant of the OS will be available; they can run the same apps that the mobile OS can run. The OS and devices running it will be from the same company only to ensure quality control. It is similar to what Apple does except target costing will be used to help reach the developing market too. Apps from the app store and third party apps will be supported. Linux or FreeBSD will be used for the kernel. If we write modifications to the Linux kernel that concern everyone, we will contribute them to the Linux community. I want the devices to gain market dominance in the developed and developing markets. The devices will be designed to stay relevant for the long term. The ARM CPU ISA will be used for all of the devices. We will give preference to apps that are designed with a mobile and desktop UI.
I can't tell what I should do for with my life post graduation. I have no plans yet. I graduate next August. Which one of my three business ideas do you like the best? How should I get myself to start making real moves towards an idea? How should I go about finding the right people? What advice do you have in general?
