Hello,
I am a young business owner who wants to work on a project. I have been toying around with this concept using lean startup, mainly doing interviews with random folks. So I have been always looking to make more friends, but since I own a small business I really don't have time. I go to work with my 3 person team, we have an intern that is like 20, and my partner who is 73. (I am 25). I then go home to take care of my grandmother. I just don't have the time nor the remaining friendship group (most of my friends from college left my city) to have people to hang out with.
I watched a series recently called middle ground (check it out they are interesting channel jubilee) where they gathered random folks who didn't know each other and had them have a discussion. I have been trying to figure out how to make a concept like tinder for friends work, cause so far other attempts haven't been successful. Pictures and profiles aren't useful for making a real connection, rather going to meet people at an event meant for it is.
This way of doing it got me thinking, of a service that partners with businesses that are for fun (like a board game library shop here in town that I know of) or restaurants to host groups, and users can sign up to go to mixers if you will with people who are looking to meet. Like imagine if you were bored tonight and didnt have anything to do, you can go to this service and see events you can go to do stuff with the intention of making friends. My observations with the internet is that you can make a lot of connections, but those connections are often inch deep. In the real world with human interaction, you can make deep connections, but your options are limited to luck and circumstance if you find folks who are open to making new friends.
So this got me thinking of the service mentioned above. I am thinking of testing it, but I just want feedback and someone to help me get the juices flowing on concept. I love this subreddit cause I know there are a lot of people here with different business backgrounds who can give me alternative perspectives. What do you think about making friends in this way? Would any of you business owners with restaurants or entertainment businesses like a steady flow of groups of people going to your place of business? Thanks!
