Entrepreneurs of Reddit! How would you go about pitching an idea to potential investors, compared to a functioning product?

So I have an idea for a online service that I have been working on for sometime now. I have built a website prototype to show the concept and flow of the service. I have done extensive research into how the idea would work and I believe it is sound. My good friends father is very high up (Vice President) in a company that is in the industry my idea deals with. I planned on contacting him to show him the idea/prototyped product in the hopes that he may like it and he would be willing to set up a demonstration with his superiors. What I am really looking to get out of all this is a partnership and some funding. My idea is very big, meaning I alone don’t have the resources to get it off the ground. However, for a company that already has everything I need, it would be no sweat for them.

To sum it up, I am basically asking how would you go about pitching an idea for funding compared to an already functioning product?

Thank you, Reddit!
