Launching my app to students on campus after four years of ups and downs

Hey fellow grinders. I've been using this sub for insights and ideas on business development for years now and finally think I'm able to contribute to that discussion.

Without going into too much detail unless people would like it, I've been developing an app (not a game) for almost four years now and finally in a position to get the public beta testers.

I'm going to hire a stall at my Universities open week for new students and give away thousands of second hand books for free. The idea was this would encourage students to check out our stall at which point i could discuss how the application could benefit them while also discussing books and learning etc and how the app can help them.

Now I've had an alpha launch with 60 or so close friends and family but this open week is expected to see over 40,000 students pass through. I've no experience in trying to promote my product to students and creating an exciting and inviting space. I'll have about four to six other people helping me at the stall over the week so we can get our message across and not get absolutely swarmed. Which brings me to the discussion point:

What kind of interaction would work best to get people using the application while getting a book for free. i.e. should i make them download the application or be more casual and just discuss its benefits?

Should i create artificial hype by making people line up to enter the stall so it doesn't get too busy potentially and we can still get the message across?

What kind of handouts aside from the book itself should be included? I was thinking a bookmark with each book that outlines how the app works - is there anything else that might work as well?

Any other advice or ideas are definitely encouraged :)
