Opening a startup can have high rewards but can also be stressful at the same time. When you start a new venture there is always going to be something that needs to be done, deadlines that have to be met. Using stress to channelize your energy can be useful but when stress becomes a part of life it does more harm than any good.
Dealing with mental health should be your priority : The grind is endless and your head is like a chaotic monkey who is always in motion running from one place to another in search of his banana. Take your time to breathe, take time to self reflect for things that you are actually running a startup for. Startup will exist if you exist. Take out time to do things which make you feel relaxed as they are required to boost your creativity. Making a routine outside your startup routine is going to help a lot to keep you distracted.
You should keep in mind that stress is going to come and be prepared with your weapons to handle it. You should have a bunch of different feel good hobbies that can be used to calm down your mind. Think about how we have classes when you are studying. You are taught 5 different subjects, you have a lunch break, then you have time where you play sports. Get my point?
Your team is your family : You are going to spend a lot of time with them and make sure that you have a deep connect with them and maintain a healthy relationship with them.
Outcomes matter but learnings matter the most : Think about the learnings instead of rewards. Whenever you learn something new you need to celebrate that moment, the experience. When you open startups you are pretty much learning something new everyday. Opening a startup is a continuous process of self improvement and in the end it is going to make a better human. Consistency is a big factor and when you combine small things the end result is big. Note down these small things in a diary and see those learnings that you have made during your past period.
Be Patient : Good things take time and it is going to be a marathon. Be prepared to devote a long term and make sure that you make the process enjoyable since it is going to take majority of your time for the next undefined period.
In short it is about being a better person first and then your values are going to reflect in the company culture and the work company is doing. Taking care of yourself should be the number one priority.
