TLDR:
I feel like I'm not developing my business (Saas) at the rate I should be do to the fact that I'm trying to do everything by myself. Would my time be better off working on the actual business (networking, etc.) and obtaining funding to do all of the other tasks? Also, how do I go about management if I were to receive such funding. Do you have any book or course recommendations to learn these skills?
I am currently a college student working on a mobile app. The main work that I have been doing revolves around talking to businesses (it is a B2B app), wireframing the app, and customer discovery. I don't know much code, however I am slowly beginning to learn it. (about an hour a day).
As my app is developed I am beginning to lean towards partnering with developers rather than contracting bits and pieces of the app that need to be done. This is introducing me to the world of management and I was just curious as to what the best way to go about learning management is. Moreso than just hiring employees, I'd need to know how to actually manage these employees. I'd like to know how I go about delegating coding work that needs to get done (features, etc.). I've heard that Agile, and Scrum/Kanban are a good place to start for the implementation of features. However, I've heard that agile and scrum require coding skills before learning them. Also, trello can be a good management tool for delegating tasks.
Also, I don't want to fall into the trap of dabbling in every field and becoming amateur at Graphic Design, UI/UX, Programming, Agile, etc. and not actually specializing in anything.
Essentially, I'm kind of all over the place: Learning to code one day, playing with graphic design the next, UI/UX design another day, then looking up project management tutorials the next, marketing skills another day, etc. I feel like I am wasting time trying to come up with the "perfect design" and such while not developing the business.
Is learning each one of these different skills not important? I feel like I'm only becoming mediocre at a lot of things as well as wasting a lot of time that could be spent making business connections. What would you better recommend that would be more significant in developing my business? My personal conclusions were: Develop a sustainable business model through research of competition, customer discovery, and networking with businesses and customers. However, this leads me to the problem of not being able to afford all of the other tasks like graphic design, coding, etc since I would not be able to do them myself.
What should be my main focus in developing my Saas app
Should I focus more on the marketing aspect as well as functionality and networking with local businesses (B2B app) as opposed to diving in to everything else (design, UI/UX/ marketing, etc.). In that case, I would need funding in order to delegate all of these tasks.
My main questions are:
- What is important for me to focus on in the development of my SaaS, B2B app? Do you recommend any courses or books to learn such skills?
- How would I go about obtaining funding to delegate the tasks for making the app (UI/UX, Graphic Design, Programming, etc.) Any book recommendations?
- What is the best way of managing a team of UI/UX designers, programmers, marketers, etc.? Do you recommend I take any courses or read any books to learn these skills?
Other advice perhaps?
Thank you.
