I’m coming from an entrepreneurial background—did my own thing for about five years before my current 9-5 job, which I’ve been at for the past year.
Since I’ve had this gig I’ve found it quite difficult to put in meaningful work when I get home from a day at the office. I’m the Director of Marketing at our company so my day job is typically fast-moving and requires a lot of thinking power throughout the day. By the time I get home I’m usually drained. So far, it seems completely random and spontaneous that I’ll get home and feel like I have the energy and brainpower to work on my side projects (writing/publishing, eCommerce, audiobook production, and more). I usually try to power through some work but I find I’m easily sidetracked or sort of half-ass my way through what I need to do. Sometimes I find motivation during this, but more often than not I call it quits after a few hours of fucking around and head to the TV or open a book on the couch.
