Hello,
I'll apologize in advance for the long post.
I'm an army medic, currently in the reserves
Carl is an army engineer
Guy is a retired combat engineer
My two friends and I decided to make a Non-Profit organization for homeless vets. Long story short we want to build campsites housing 200-400 homeless vets within 30 minutes of larger VA hospitals all over the country. We already made a company and are sending in the business plan with the 501(c)(3) on this coming Monday. However, the problem we are facing is that it could easily take 180 days before we are authorized to take donations publicly for the sake of charitable donations, that being said we don't want to take large donations from companies until we can guarantee that they will be able to write it off on their taxes. We've called the IRS as well as other veteran non profits and we keep getting conflicting answers on when we can take donations that let people claim them on taxes, so until we get a solid answer we decided to look at funding at the lowest level.
At this time we are looking at asking people for two things
- to help spread the word of our project through social media.
- if you can, please donate an equivalent of 25¢ a day in one month increments ($7.50)
I certainly understand if you can't afford that. I used to live paycheck to paycheck myself, I've been there. But sharing our website costs nothing and we would ask that you consider doing that.
None of us are social media geniuses I can tell you that, so facebook, instagram, and others are on there way. I have drill this weekend but I will be working on getting those going and will be connected to our website hopefully by Sunday if I don't fall asleep on my computer.
If you have any suggestions I'm all ears.
PS. I'm working with Red Tie Productions here in Austin TX to make video ads. hopefully i can have one or two done in the next two weeks.
Also, i'll be riding a bike with a flag, handing out bio degradable business cards in Downtown Austin every weekend (not this one though, I have to do Army stuff).
Thank you for reading through, and please help us grow by spreading the word.
