Authorization from every. Single. Brand....?

A little while back I created an online store which sells skincare, haircare, and fragrance products. I believe in perfecting my platform before rushing to rack up sales, that way I have everything set up for the long haul. In my most recent spurt of renovation and expansion I decided to switch payment gateways. I previously had a set up which used paypal (integrated) and now have switched to strip to avoid extra fees.

After getting stripe set up very nicely in my store, I received an email from a representative. The rep mentioned the “popular brands” that I carry, and asked for documentation for reselling. After some email exchanges, I was asked

“we're looking for documentation directly from the brands themselves (i.e. Tom Ford, Valentino, Yves Saint Laurent, etc.) which authorizes you to resell their products.” ...

Am I missing a very large piece to the retail puzzle, or is stripe very very strict? I was under the impression that after filing all my tax documents, and purchasing from a legitimate wholesaler with receipts, that I was legally allowed to sell these products.... am I really supposed to go to every single brand for this? I have close to 500 products currently, so this seems like a pretty large task....

Can someone please fill me in a little as to if im in the wrong, am I walking on thing ice? Or is buying and reselling with receipts not allowed?
