Hello everyone!
I'll start by giving a brief overview of where I am at. I'm 27 and live in the UK, I have gone through school, college, university studying music and music technology (unfortunately I add to the statistic of students studying a bit of a pointless degree due to schools pushing you to study "what you're good at"). Since Uni I have worked a few "crappy" jobs; bartender, personal trainer, warehouse jobs. In the last 5 years or so I have had a growing desire to work for myself. I really struggle getting any form of job satisfaction whilst working for someone else and I know I will regret it if I don't try to start something. A lot of my friends and family always tell me they think I will end up running my own business and I fully have their support with anything I decide to do.
This is where I struggle. I have so many different ideas and have difficulty committing to one idea to push forward. I am however quite confident it is going to be predominantly online due to my knowledge directing me that way.
There always seems a lot of reasons to not do it, and to be honest at the end of the day its out of fear. The main reason being high competition or over-saturated markets. For example opening up a gym... there are gyms absolutely everywhere, I realise this but I also realise there are a lot of gyms that do it wrong or that could be so much better or in a better location. Or another example could be a clothing company.... Again, absolutely all over the place being the negative but then I see the problem of everyone just changing the designs on clothing and the majority not looking at fabrics; performance fabrics for outdoor activities as an example.
I have money saved up ready to start, as I said I have kinda realised this is what I want to do and have tried to lay foundations for this by learning basics of online marketing, social media content creating and other skills. I am leaving my job in February and going travelling with my partner for 5 months in which I will have the headspace and time to really get my thoughts together. When I return home I would really like to start something, whether its diving 100% in or whether it means getting another "crappy" job 9-5 and starting on the evenings and weekends to develop over time. I have no issue doing that at all! The main thing for me is to know the direction!!
So at the end of this basically I would love to read how you started, what did it take you to finally have faith in yourself and just do it?!
I really appreciate any help or even just your story so I don't feel like the only one thinking like this! Also any skills you see as valuable for my position for me to look into would be great!
