I have a window cleaning business and it went just like in Emyth Revisited, management by abdication, setting up jobs that rely on personality rather than functionality and all that, until I let the people go and went small again.
But now I have some experience in failing, and went a full circle, so currently I am working on setting up things properly this time.
The main problem I have right now, and I did when I had to let people go, is how do I manage cash payments?
It's not in a country like England where people want it done monthly or bi-weekly. Here it's once or twice a year and they want both inside and out.
A problem with that is that you might have 2 identical houses, but ones windows are well maintained and the other one will be a grimefest. So you have to individualy apraise each house and set a price, that will change by the second clean depending on whether they call you back in 6moths or a year. And my technicians would be trained in appraisal and be paid commission.
So how do you set things up in a way that a technician would not be able to arrange (and document) a lower price, and pocket the difference in cash?
Because even when I was working by myself, and clients asumend that I was a technician working in a company, they would themselves offer me deals to screw my "employer". They get a lower price, technician gets paid more, what's not to like?
Thank you.
